Pattern Tour Cos80-1887, 1887 Bat Crinoline
1880's Bustle costume crinoline EvaDress Patterns formal How To My Personal Dressmaking Pattern Tour Polonaise
Alexandra Reynolds21-piece pattern for the wings, corset bodice, flounced skirt, gloves, polonaise and fichu. 5/8" seams are given. This pattern does NOT include pieces for the crinoline or optional bustle pad. I have given recommendation in the yardage chart as to sourcing patterns for these parts. There are also no provisions for the bat headdress.I have rated this pattern advanced as it is very technically challenging. Technical abilities are required in corsetry, mitering double or single bias binding, knife-pleating, armature, draping and glove-making. Build this costume over our 1886 corset pattern offered separately, here. See my blog series for construction details and...

I have drawn connections to projects I have since completed with a shot of a project in progress (the red...

Alexandra ReynoldsAs explored by Brian Centrone in his article ‘Starstruck Sewing’ for Threads Magazine (current issue #208, April/May 2020): During the Great Depression, commercial pattern makers marketed designs inspired by the attire stars wore and line-for-line copies of clothing designs right from the silver screen. This is a sewing pattern challenge to use any EvaDress pattern(s) to create your favorite men’s or women’s garment(s) that are line-for-line copies of costuming, as seen in film or garments inspired by a film costuming piece or a piece worn by an actor/actress off-screen through 1959. Accessories (hats, bags, etc.) are not counted as an...

Alexandra ReynoldsIn a sort of Advents-Kalendar way, I will post 'red' for each day of December through Christmas and link the image as closely as possible to EvaDress Patterns (in pattern tour form)! Here is the seventeenth, not unlike red ganache, an 1880's corset per Anne Louise Avery on Twitter: https://twitter.com/annelouiseavery/status/1051897855928090630 Sew the look using our 1886 Corset Pattern originally by La Mode Illustrée: One will note while the Spoon busk style was used particularly in this decade, this pattern, as does the extant example above clearly demonstrates usage of the straight steel busk. The Spoon Busk's significance was to 'better...
