Pattern Tour, B20-5760

13-piece hand-drafted pattern originally by Butterick.  The embroidery motif for sleeve patch was not included with the original pattern I owned, so I created my own. You will have to, as well. I don't normally post Pattern Tours for single-size patterns, but this one is exceptional for the fact that my dear Grandmother graduated from high school at the time this design was popular 99 years ago! Just to stress that point, here is a photo of her in her high school basketball team in 1923! Were I showing this photo to you in person, I'd make you guess...

Pattern Tour E30-744, 1930's Dinner Gown & Cape

This 5-piece pattern is for the dinner gown with incorporated cape via buttonhole at the front of the bust. Strongly resembles the velvet gown Cate Blanchett wears in the latest Noir film, Nightmare Alley! Fullness is provided for the bust with double darts and cinching at the center front where the cape threads through.  A line of elastic is sewn into the upper edge of the un-structured bodice back to hold it in place.  The cape may be worn on or off the shoulders and a godet adds fullness to the otherwise close-fitting bias skirt. Suggested fabrics for this design are:...

Pattern Tour Cos80-1887, 1887 Bat Crinoline

21-piece pattern for the wings, corset bodice, flounced skirt, gloves, polonaise and fichu.  5/8" seams are given. This pattern does NOT include pieces for the crinoline or optional bustle pad. I have given recommendation in the yardage chart as to sourcing patterns for these parts. There are also no provisions for the bat headdress.I have rated this pattern advanced as it is very technically challenging. Technical abilities are required in corsetry, mitering double or single bias binding, knife-pleating, armature, draping and glove-making. Build this costume over our 1886 corset pattern offered separately, here. See my blog series for construction details and...

Finalist of the EvaDress Patterns 'Hollywood is Calling' Challenge!

Congratulations to Heide for her entry as the finalist in the EvaDress 'Hollywood is Calling' Pattern Challenge! Her pink tulle dress is an amazing piece she created inspired by Doris Day in the 1953 production of 'Lullaby of Broadway'! As her sister posted on her behalf: 'Heide used the E50-9509 1953 Evening Gown Pattern. Three colors of tulle and handmade flowers. Heide took vintage couture inspiration and added a boned corselette.' Heide hit the challenge nail on the head AND out of the ball park with her couture techniques such as her boned corselette with waist line ribbon stay and...
