1940's Panties & Slip, U40-8261
U40-8261; 1940's Panties & Slip
7-piece hand-drafted War-time pattern originally by Cincinnati Post mail order service.
The single panties piece means the pair is cut in one with front and back, so there is no side seam and no gusset at the crotch to mess with-makes for a quick pair! The waistline of the panties is fitted down via pleats at front, the top edge is finished with a self-straight facing creating a casing in which a buttonhole opening for elastic insertion (across the back edge only) is created.
The gored slip is fitted at the bust via double side darts and a dart coming up from the front gores to correspond with the princess seams. Fabric straps integrated with the front and back bra or ribbon straps may be used. The top may be finished with lace edging. NO HEM is given for the slip!
I have been known to sew little sundresses from such patterns as this, so don't limit yourself to letting it go unseen under your favorite 40's frock!
Fabrics suggested for this style are: Lingerie Crepe, Muslin, Poplin, Satin or Crepe.
1/2" seams are given.
Size:
Size 40 fits 40" bust, 34" waist, 43" hip.
